I'm a writer of Imaginative and Quirky picture books
for kids. (I'll save the Intense and Quirky moniker for branching out into Middle Grade books!) My own
IQ kids were very early readers and devoured books. Their reading journeys, like most children, began with picture books. I write children's books that spark imagination, inspire a love for reading and
encourage positive self image.
I'm a Pennsylvania girl who was raised in the South, later relocated to New England and now finds myself completely at home in the Midwest. My blend of home states has led to an eclectic vocabulary of both southern and northern expressions, which my children find unique and hilarious...at least for now!
After graduating college, I worked for a Fortune 100 company in Corporate Communications. That basically means I wrote stuff and edited stuff. I loved my job! It taught me how to manage projects and accept critiques. I was also able to see my work in print which is every author's reward. As a creative at a corporation, there are many stakeholders on any given project. You learn to work collaboratively or you do not survive. That valuable lesson has served me well in my writing career.
After starting a family, I decided to stay home with my children, but never stopped writing. I'm a member of the Society of Children's Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), participate in ReFoReMo, PBParty, PBChat and continue to hone my craft by participating in critique groups and writing contests. In fact, you may find an entry or two posted here!
